Our Impact

Casa El Norte is one of the oldest emergency shelters in Canada for asylum-seekers and a first home to more than 10,000 people from over 100 countries since 1984.  Beginning as a grassroots movement to respond to the needs of asylum seekers, Casa continues to be a safe haven for new beginnings for asylum seekers and unhoused individuals in Fort Erie and the Niagara Region.

Our History

Mission Statement

Our History

Casa El Norte was founded by local families moved to action after meeting Isaac, a

young refugee who survived violence in El Salvador and arrived at the Peace Bridge.

Since 1984, this spirit of compassion has empowered a volunteer-led movement that

has supported over 10,000 asylum seekers with shelter, safety, and a fresh start.
